Winter Doldrums
17 Jan 2012 @ 11:39 pm
Hi all. Thanks to all those that came out and supported us last week at The Hamilton. That place was sweet. We really appreciate your constant support. Really. I'm not kidding.
This week we roll into Arlington, VA to play at good ol' Ragtime on Thursday night. Oh Ragtime, we just can't stay away from you for some reason. Show starts at 930pm.
Named After Alexander...I Think

M4K
15 Dec 2011 @ 10:34 am
The 'Stache Bash is tomorrow night at Kefi in Wilmington, NC. and we are both excited and honored to be once again playing this celebration for a month-long fundraiser for children in need. Did I mention that it is also a costume party? Uh-huh. After growing mustaches for a whole month, these fine and generous gentlemen will be flaunting their lip flair with complementing attire. Will we see Ron Burgundy? Tom Selleck? The lunch lady?
The anticipation is killing me.
The Hamilton
09 Dec 2011 @ 12:11 am
The Hamilton is a new venue opening up in downtown DC on 14th and F streets. It's design was intended to provide a unique and comfortable listening room for its patrons. We're honored to be invited to play in such an historic building.
Let's face it. We love playing bars. This is true. But, performing in an actual listening room allows us to manipulate different dynamics with our tunes and is an overall wonderful experience for us. And, we've managed to get our great friend Caitlin Schneiderman to open up for us. What?! That's awesome!! We hope to share this with you all on January 11 at the Hamilton in DC.
And to boot, these tickets would make an excellent present. I'm just sayin', is all...
VA shows
05 Dec 2011 @ 11:44 am
Hey all! We've got a coupla shows this week to end the sabbatical. Wednesday brings us to St. Elmo's in Alexandria. This will be a new venue for us and we're always excited to play new places. Thursday brings us back to Ragtime, our home in Arlington.

Mustaches for Kids
28 Nov 2011 @ 1:00 pm
We've got a bunch of fun shows coming up next month, but there is one in particular that I wanted to call to your attention.
Mustaches for Kids is a nation-wide non-profit that raises money for children's charities by growing mustaches. Yep. The chapter in Wilmington, NC is the largest with 175 growers last year raising $35,000. At the end of their growing season, the M4K Wilmington chapter throws a party known as the "'Stache Bash" where growers dress up in costume to complement their respective Mustaches.
We are honored to be invited back to help celebrate another growing season's worth of charity work and lip-fuzz.
Find out more at http://www.m4k-ilm.org/M4K-ILM_2011/Home.html and make a difference!

We hope that you all are enjoying this last month of the Fall as well and we can't wait to sing songs for you all once again.
There are some new blogs just posted about our different trips so you all can keep up to date with some very relevant news about our private lives.
See you all soon!
Keeping fingers tough
14 Nov 2011 @ 12:01 am
It's sometimes a delicate thing to keep your fingers tough when playing stringed instruments. Playing an average of 8 shows a month oughtta do the trick. But, this is just an average.
This month off from playing shows greatly lessens the time spent with guitar in hand, whereas september had us working 3-4 hour nights for 15 out of it's 30 days. Without the regular gigging, one's practices at home rarely yield a 3 hour session, while a full workload will seldom give the full time musician's appendages respite.
There's a balance somewhere, but this is something I'll need to figure out some other time. For right now, keeping my fingers tough on this month-long sabbatical is priority.
Time to hit the weight room.
Songwriting
08 Nov 2011 @ 11:47 am
Bob Dylan seemed to think that constant motion assisted inspiration. Let's hope that this works during this month off for 'ol H&H as they traipse through Virginia's and Maryland's eastern shore, the Left Coast, and Central and South America, respectively.
You may ask yourself, "But, don't Herb & Hanson travel 25,000 miles a year playing shows? Why don't they write songs on the road?"
The road's different when touring. That's for drinking.*
"Lookin' left, turnin' right. Eyes up front not behind.
Can't seem to find the line 'though you're tryin'.
And you've done every deed calculatedly conceived
with your appetite the whetter and your tears a-far from dryin'.
Oh! It's a mess, but only just.
Pick it up or leave it. I don't care.
Please, keep refraining from complaining 'bout the carpet that you're staining.
It won't matter in a hundred years." -- work in progress, H&H
*This is intended as a joke as Herb and Hanson never have nor will they ever condone operating vehicles or heavy machinery while under the influence of alcohol.
Different Kind Of Travelin'
01 Nov 2011 @ 12:18 am
Herb & Hanson are taking the month of November off from the circling road to do some independent traveling and experience some general merriment. Herb will be visiting some friends and family on the West Coast for a couple of weeks. Too bad Mikey went and got a job. He'll have to take a few days off. And Hanson will be heading south to Central America with his special lady friend to do some exploring and learning. And hopefully, some song writing.
We'll be trying to keep things updates around here in between all of the excitement so please stick around. We're also gonna try to implement some exciting changes to the website.
See ya in December!

And just so you know, Awakeness peaked on the Amazon charts at number 53,884. Now it has slumped down to 85,481. That is unacceptable. Do you have it yet?
So...uh..How Do You Like It?
14 Mar 2011 @ 11:21 pm
So our new record Awakeness has been out in the world for almost a month now. And Herb and I were wondering what you all thought about it. So please let us know what you think! Post your thoughts on the facebook. Or post them here in the comments. Or shoot us an email via the contact page. Just tell us what you think. In any way you choose. Um, only if you like it though. I don't know if I can take that kind of rejection.

Not A Jedi Master...
16 Jan 2011 @ 5:56 pm
...but a recording master. The break is going well and giving us the time and opportunity to finish up this new record. I'll be taking it in to get mastered this week and than it's off for replication. And then my friends, then you can get your hands on it. What a glorious day that will be! Stay tuned.
Cold Equals Inspiration?
04 Jan 2011 @ 11:19 am
Happy New Year everybody. As I'm sure you've noticed by now, the schedule is pretty light for this month. We'll be taking some time off of the road to focus on some other aspects of our business. Particularly, working out some new numbers and getting them ready for the stage and for you. Since the cold is forcing me inside for most of the day, I'll at least let it inspire me for some indoor creativity.
But don't neglect us here at herbandhanson.com. We'll have some big exciting news coming up in the near future regarding the release of our new studio record, Awakeness. Stay tuned! And stay warm!
